From the organizer:

Come to join a very special Imperial Embroidery workshop with artist Tram Ngoc Pham and special guest master artisan Vu Gioi.

Embroidery has a long tradition of more than 700 years in Vietnam, and the needle art form archives its best in the royal embroidery, especially the imperial robes. Imperial robes – just like many other historical artefacts – reflect cultural values, beliefs and many beautiful symbols. All of them come to life via magnificent hand-stitching. Royal embroidery is always considered the highest rank of this needle art form, which requires not only the best quality materials but also the hands of many master artisans whose techniques and creativity bring both precision and soul to every pattern.

For this workshop, we have Vu Gioi, the one and only master artisan who has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to revive royal traditions in embroidery. To Gioi, every robe has its own story, and when you do embroidery, it is not only stitching but to reverently bring a beautiful story into everlasting life. To illustrate the Vietnamese royal patterns, he will teach us one of the patterns from Her Majesty The Queen’s robe: its design, color harmony, and the particular combination of stitches.
