From the organizer:

Poetry inherently involves the construction of sounds. It’s about the beat, the breath, the rhythm, the dissonants and the consonants. At Xoá #5, we are gonna fetch the genesis of poetry by disassociating sound and meaning and explore the musicality in language(s).

This is your chance to get to know more about “Sound Poetry” and join our poetry reading workshop hosted by Maryan.

* About the host:

Maryan Captan is an Egyptian-American poet who has been involved in Philadelphia’s art and literary community since 2008. She is a writer, performer and educator, who has taught workshops in creative writing, performance, and creative placemaking in all over America. Maryan serves as Art Director at APIARY Magazine, host of The Youthquake Open Mic, and teaches experimental and experiential writing classes at The Head & The Hand Press.

* About Ajar Press’s XOA series:

XOA is a poetry reading series to shape fresh experiences of language, gathering on the third Thursdays of every month inside a (lot of) space(s).
