From the organizers:
On the occassion of the 90th birth anniversary of painter – composer Nguyen Duc Toan (1929 – 2019), Vietnam Fine Arts Association, the artist’s family, and the representative of the painting collection collaborate to organize the exhibition introducing his works.
“In our country, there have been many music composers who paint, but there seems to be only three of them that considered painting as their second career: Van Cao, Nguyen Dinh Phuc and Nguyen Duc Toan. They truly were painters.
…Since the 1980s, Nguyen Duc Toan (composer of well-known songs such as “Que em”, “Biet on Vo Thi Sau”, “Chieu tren ben cang”) had been focus almost entirely on painting as a way to respond to his passion for visual arts as well as to “lived” through the tough Subsidy period in the country back then. He made numerous paintings with various media, from carved wood, pigments, Chinese ink, silk, to oil paints and lacquer (he even made the wooden plates himself). Among the painter-composers, he was the one who use the most types of media. His art was also greatly admired.”
