Introduction of Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest Reviews 2023-2024
Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest Reviews is an annual art criticism writing contest hosted by Hanoi Grapevine. The contest is part of Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest – an event that honours contemporary artistic & cultural activities in Vietnam.
The contest aims to promote art values and foster audience interest in Vietnamese contemporary cultural and artistic activities.
In 2024, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest will celebrate its fifth anniversary. This is a unique opportunity for Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest Reviews to continue seeking multidimensional and high-quality articles from the audience on cultural and artistic events in Vietnam from 2019 to the present.
Objectives
– To create a playground for the art-loving community to express their unique views and perspectives on outstanding artists & art projects in the past years
– To spread values and honor meaningful art projects that take place in Vietnam
– To inspire and motivate artists to continue creating art

Rules & Regulations
Participants
Participants: All of those who enjoy art and love to share their thoughts via written reviews (art reviews and experiences)
Topic
The participant is to create 01 article (1200 – 1500 words in length) to share their perspectives, evaluations & feelings regarding one of the artistic experiences they had. An artistic experience is understood as a visual art exhibition or a series of activities within the framework of a visual art project; an art performance, a music performance (contemporary experimental music, indie music), contemporary theatre or dance, or a film screening by independent filmmakers, taking place within January 2019 to January 2024.

Requirements
– The submission requires a title and the author name. It also needs to be submitted with pictures, illustrations or illustrative materials.
– The submission can be written in either Vietnamese or English.
– Submissions will be publicly and anonymously posted within the album “HANOI GRAPEVINE’S FINEST REVIEWS 2023-2024” on Proactive Audience Network fanpage.
Notes
– The participant needs to present their evaluation, perspective and research on the art event/experience from the point of view of an audience member or an art critic;
– Each participant should submit only 01 entry;
– The art event/experience selected in the entry must be an event/experience that has never been reviewed by the author in previous Finest Reviews competitions;
– Submissions must be original, have not entered any other contests & have not been published in any kinds of media;
– Each participant is responsible for the copyright of the written entry and accompanying media;
– The media used are images whose copyright fully belong to the participant.
– The media used belong to the event mentioned in the text and are public on social media, with full and accurate source credit when used in the text.
– Any opinions, views & information found and used by the participant in the submission (e. g. from experts, books, online articles, films, videos, photographs, dictionaries, research papers, etc.) must be appropriately cited;
– The participant consents to the use of their articles for communication purposes such as the promotion of the contest and other related communications by the organisers.

Marking criteria
Validity:
– Art activity selected for the review must took place during the period from January 2019 to January 2024
– No plagiarism; the accuracy and truthfulness of the information included in the article must be ensured and cited fully
– No more than three spelling errors
– No image copyright infringement
Creativity:
– Original & unique perspective
– Accurate, concise and valuable choice of words
– Well thought-out illustrations
Coherence & persuasion:
– Coherent expression, logical and concrete writing structure
Academia:
– Sufficient examples/references
– Distinctive quotes
– Rich background knowledge
– Comparison among different sources of information and materials
Prizes
+ 01 First Prize – for the best entry selected by Hanoi Grapevine; VND 3.000.000 in cash and gifts;
+ 01 Second Prize – for the 2nd best entry selected by Hanoi Grapevine; VND 2.000.000 in cash and gifts;
+ 01 Third Prize – for the 3rd best entry selected by Hanoi Grapevine; VND 1.000.000 in cash and gifts;
+ 01 Favorite Prize: The best submissions beside the First, Second & Third Prize will be open to public vote via Facebook interaction; the submission with the highest number of votes (the highest number of interactions) will win the Favorite Prize; VND 1.000.000 in cash and gifts. Voting score calculation will be based on the total number of reactión, comments and shares of the article on the fanpage (1 react = 1 comment = 1 share = 1 point/1 account)
In addition, the winning authors will also be awarded scholarships for Hanoi Grapevine’s writing courses in 2024.
