After nearly ten years spent largely away from pure artistic practice to focus on design and the craft of woodworking and furniture-making, Nguyễn Ban Ga returns with “ripples of the day” at manzi—an open studio anchored at the intersection of design, craft, and sculpture, together with an installation of space, light, and sound. Emerging from a deeply personal disclosure—private preoccupations circling around memory, family bonds, distance in relationships, and the fear of separation—”ripples of the day,” once it took form, seemed to slip beyond its own frame, somehow carrying (despite initial hesitations) other narratives along with it. These narratives transcend personal reminiscences or private struggle of everyday life, to echo the wider tremors of the society and the broader turbulence of our times, through expressions that are wistful yet poetic: on transformation, and on loss.
