CHILLALA – House of Art are pleased to present to art enthusiasts the exhibition “Xếp Một Khoảng Trời | To Fold a Sky” – a showcase featuring 23 lacquer works by contemporary artist Nguyen Van He, curated by Ace Le.
“Xếp Một Khoảng Trời | To Fold a Sky”, the debut solo exhibition of artist Nguyen Van He, brings together 23 lacquer works from his ongoing series “Folding Airplanes”. Drawing inspiration from the childhood game of paper folding, the series abstracts an alternative perspective on post-war memory – revisiting the lingering aftermath of the past through a childlike lens.
Manifesting as a site of trauma, each fold serves to release and unleash raw, unrefined inner emotions. The artist’s creative process, running parallel to an optimistic domestic life with his family, becomes a vital mechanism for directly confronting layers of post-war memory. Through extensive experimentation, this body of work represents an exhaustive investigation into morphology: shifting from the realistic rendering of military hardware, through the structural dismantling of childhood games, and ultimately anchoring in minimalist, monochromatic geometric forms.
