KONIMA is a screening series dedicated to independent cinema and short films, initiated by a community of filmmakers and cinephiles, in collaboration with Kontribute Creative Studio. As we enter our 12th edition, KONIMA will take place simultaneously in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi for the first time this July.

Marking its second anniversary, KONIMA Summer 12 expands its orbit from the evolving landscape of Vietnamese short films toward cinematic practices across Southeast Asia, bringing together works from Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia alongside the stories of Vietnamese living abroad.

Operating almst as invisible cinema, KONIMA has grown alongside the community that shaped it. Across every edition, we continue to ponder young cinema and its modes of existence—not as a progression of generations in a linear fashion, but as an attitude, a perspective, a way of observing an image and entering into dialogue with different ways of seeing cinema. An imagined movie theatre, one that sets aside the conventions of reality to enter the work.

Each film is a possibility of imagining new worlds.
