Vu Dan Tan Museum invites you to the seminar “Words Across Borders: Vu Dinh Long, the Writer, Translator, and Publisher”, featuring distinguished Vietnamese specialists Dr. Ngo Tu Lap, Dr. Doan Anh Duong, and Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Van Gia as speakers, moderated by Vu Dan Tan Museum Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kraevskaia.
Ngo Tu Lap and Ngo Van Gia will discuss the multifaceted work of Vu Dinh Long as a writer and translator and his contribution to the development of Vietnamese drama, while Doan Anh Duong will introduce to the public the publishing and journalism activities of Tan Dan publishing house founded and operated by Vu Dinh Long (1925-1945).
The programme is organized by the Vu Dan Tan Museum, with support from Goethe-Institut Hanoi.
About the speakers
Ngô Tự Lập (born in 1962) earned his first university degree in navigation in the USSR (1986), followed by a Master’s Degree in Comparative Literature in France (1996) and a Ph.D. in English in the USA (2006). He is the author of over 20 books and hundreds of essays. He is also a songwriter and a translator of Russian, French, and English. He is currently the President of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Culture, Language, and Education Fostering (CLEF, Hanoi).
Dr. Doan Anh Duong, Principal Researcher at the Institute of Literature (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), lecturer, and specialist in literary history, modern Vietnamese literature, and literary groups. His research focuses on nationalism, gender and society in colonial and postcolonial Vietnam, as well as culture and literature in modern Vietnam. His publications include Literary Space in Contemporary Vietnam (2014) and Creative in Transition: Society and Literature after Đổi Mới (2020), as well as several co-authored books and numerous journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Van Gia: Literary critic, researcher, journalist, writer, and former Head of the Faculty of Creative Writing and Journalism at Hanoi University of Culture (formerly the prestigious Nguyen Du School).
About the moderator
Natalia Kraevskaia (Natasha), Ph.D. in Philology, engages in multidisciplinary research focused on Vietnam’s art, culture, and ethnography. She has over 100 publications on these subjects, including her book “From Nostalgia towards Exploration. Essays on Contemporary Art in Vietnam” (2005).
In 1990, she co-founded the first independent contemporary art space in Hanoi, known as Salon Natasha, organized and curated a multitude of exhibitions showcasing Vietnamese art both domestically and internationally. In 2025, she established the Vu Dan Tan Museum.
She was an associate professor of IS-VNU (2004-2023), and the National University “Higher School of Economics” (HSE), Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies, Moscow .
