From Institut Français de HCM Ville:
Institut Français du Vietnam proudly presents photo and video exhibition “Dictionary of Image” by Nguyen Le Phuong Linh.
As part of the Villa Saigon x A.Farm residency program, Phuong Linh will experiment with a new presentation format for photography works through the exhibition “Dictionary of Image”. Here, she will display a combination of the photographs she took in France along with the iconic images in Vietnam from her travels and during the stay of the residency program. This is also an opportunity for the artist to express her thoughts and ideas on photos and images of objects. She strengthens the connection between her works and Vietnam by linking her photos with the objects she collects on the streets here.
This exhibition for her is a journey of words to images, of language to the way of expression. The words and images are used as materials, textures, colors, when connected, when opposing to each other to create a whole new meaning. Through this journey, her creating images from words evokes the idea of exoticism, body and culture.
Born in Vietnam, Nguyen Le Phuong Linh came to live in France at the age of 16. Graduating from Nîmes School of Fine Arts in 2016, she continues her artistic career with residency programs in Southern France (FRAC, Maisons Daura, Espeyran Castle…). She combines a variety of artistic disciplines: video, photography, installation art to create her works.
