Himalayan Arts and Culture Exhibition
01 – 04 Dec 2011, 8.30 am – 7.30 pm
Module 7
From the organizer:
For the first time in Vietnam, the art enthusiasts and general public will have a chance to experience the unique Himalayan art tradition and culture. Over 80 authentic artifacts from the region organized in a mandala structure will give the audience a peek into the spirituality embedded in the daily life of the people of the Himalayas.
The Himalaya range spreads across the borders of China, Bhutan, Pakistan, India and Nepal. “The World’s Rooftop” has long been seen by many beliefs as the holiest place on Earth, with a unique culture that has been well preserved until today.
Himalayan Style Art is art that is indigenous to the Himalayas, and is primarily concerned with spirituality. Predominantly, Vajrayana Buddhism symbols and motifs can be found on materials like sculptures, thangka (scrolled paintings), Mandala, ceremonial instruments… conveying the inner realization of the artist.
Himalayan, especially Vajrayana artifacts are not just unique, intricate art, but can often create an inner and pure inspiration in the viewers.
Special guest: His Eminence Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche, a spiritual leader of the Drukpa tradition of Vajrayana Buddhism, a genuine emanation of Guru Rinpoche, and Drukpa Sangha members from India, Nepal, Bhutan
