HCMC – Art Project “March: Art Walk”
29 Mar – 09 May 2015, 9 am – 5 pm (Mon to Sat)
Sao La, Freeland Coffee, Lê Công Kiều Station, Nguyễn Công Trứ Studio
District 1, HCMC
From the organizer:
In the first collaboration, Sao La and Freeland are pleased to present a group exhibition – March: Art Walk. Inspired by the desire to narrow the gap between contemporary art with the general public, as well as connecting artists, the exhibition is part of a bigger community art project with the same title hosted at four different spaces: Sao La, Lê Công Kiều Station, Freeland and Studio Nguyễn Công Trứ. Located in remained colonial architectures by Ben Thanh market of the former Eastern Pearl, four spaces by chance gather in the heart of Saigon to form a small circle of art that at the same time blends and contradicts to the surrounding shopping centers.
Like a reunion, twenty nine artists from different generations bring to March: Art Walk various kinds of artworks, from painting, photography, sculpture to installation, video, performance, experimental music and multimedia. Beside various presentations, the artworks also carry personal messages, subjective statements about various social issues, or strong yet interesting personalities of the artists. They, like beautiful colors of life, all harmonize with each other in embellishing a colorful painting of spring.
Along with the art exhibition, other activities including workshops, artist talks, film screenings and even interactive performances will be organised regularly during the project. This is also a chance for the general public to approach contemporary art which is still very new in Vietnam, especially young practices. All activities of this project will be free of charge.
