From the organizer:

The Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday is just around the corner. From adults to children, every one is excitedly shopping and preparing for Tết. But everyone is also eager to come home, get together by the cozy kitchen fire, make bánh chưng (traditional Vietnamese sticky rice cakes) and share what we have been through in the past year. These moments are priceless!

Bánh chưng is made from glutinous rice, mung beans, fatty pork and other ingredients. Its origin is told by the legend of Lang Lieu, a prince of the last king of the Sixth Hung Dynasty, who became the successor thanks to his creation of bánh chưng and bánh giày, which symbolized, respectively, the Earth and the Sky. Considered an indispensable dish of Tet, a bánh chưng is nicely wrapped in a green square package and placed on each family’s altar to honor their ancestors and to pray that they will watch over the family in the new year. The variant ingredients of bánh chưng, which all come from nature, emphasize the significant meaning of the traditional dish with Vietnamese people.
