From the organizers:

The word “contemporary” is becoming more and more omnipresent in the art scene: from acclaims & homage as an escape for artist creativity… to the criticism on how ordinary, valueless, disorganized, superficial and shallow it is. Could the borderline and the spirit of “contemporary art” be determined – instead of just a word referring to art practices of the modern day? What can we learn from the spirit of Contemporary art – which is more often than not received backlash by critics and declined by the public?

The course “Introduction to Contemporary art through its terminology” will mention several well-known movements and trends in arts, which are considered the spirit of contemporary art. Understanding contemporary art is to visualize the mechanism and the borderlines between art movements & trends – and on the other hand, understand about the changes in the lives and the spirit of the modern human through an artistic lens.

“Introduction to contemporary art through its terminology” is the first course in the journey to explore Art studies by CUCA Grueilla 04. This course will focus on a few distinct characteristics of noted movements & trends in contemporary arts – such as conceptual art, minimalism, virtual art,… all while discussing the borderlines and criteria in the modern aesthetics for the participants to confidently converse in this subject.

The course is designed and taught by visual artist, independent art educator Pham Dieu Huong.
