    From Phu sa Lab:

Bamboo tree is a significant symbol in both Vietnamese culture and daily life. It exists almost everywhere in Vietnam, though mainly in rural areas. The solid, straight and high bamboo trees represent the resilience, indomitability, and bravery of the Vietnamese people. Also, as the bamboo trees often grow in clusters with a strong vitality, it represents the solidarity of Vietnamese people as well as their diligence and loyalty to their homeland.

Bamboo tree clusters are also popularly known as the emblem of Vietnam’s rural areas, together with banyan trees, rice paddy field or village pond. These symbols always recall a peaceful, rustic village in the mind of Vietnamese wherever they are.

In preserving the beautiful culture, THE BAMBOO TALK is a journey imagined by the artists and dedicated to the audiences.

Phu Sa Lab is an experimental music center founded by artist Nguyen Nhat Ly. He hopes it will become a place for artists to gather and work together to create outstanding art performances. Here, we work for the innovation of culture, we bring the essence and talent of Vietnam to the world and affirm the position of the country, while preserving a strong national identity through the bamboo instruments used in our shows. We create sounds and melodies from BAMBOO – one of the symbols of Asians in general and Vietnamese in particular. Joining our shows, audiences will get to experience the traditional Vietnamese stage with the capacity of 50 seats and enjoy our traditional music.

In addition to developing arts and culture, we also maintain and protect the art of Ca Tru (The Tally Card Songs) – an intangible culture heritage recognized by UNESCO which is in need of urgent safeguarding. The performances by artists from the Kim Duc Ca Tru School at Phu Sa Lab beautifully convey the quintessence of Vietnam’s Ca Tru, set in a luxurious setting that bears the most distinctive features of Vietnam’s culture.

Phu Sa Lab promises to be an Experimental Music Center that brings unforgettable moments to local and international art lovers who would like to cherish the cultural heritage of Vietnam.
