Hanoi Art Map director – Bex Hughes, is an art director and curator from the South West of England. She graduated from Falmouth University with a bachelors degree in fine art and specialises in community-led creative projects. Before coming to Vietnam in 2017, she was the director of an art collective in Barcelona, hosting bi-monthly exhibitions in new locations throughout the city. Now based in Hanoi, she heads 3 local groups – Hanoi Zine Library, Made in Vietnam Zine and Hanoi Art Map.
We hope to bring creatives closer, helping to navigate the hidden corners of this city’s art scene. We will present the designs for our map, talk about the process of designing and illustrating, and highlight the importance of collaborating and supporting local creatives.
Language: Vietnamese & English
– Introduction and overview of the project. Ways to create a map. Why is it an effective tool?
– Open discussion – how can we as a creative community become more connected? What would you like to see more of/have access to? What are your favourite aspects of Hanoi’s creative community? What is unique about it in contrast to other Vietnamese cities?
– Workshop – we will create a collective map/zine that will be freely distributed in other creative venues including QUA.’s zine collection. Using various techniques and materials provided each participant is encouraged to represent a particular area of the city that has personal significance to them. They can bring additional materials such as text or photos to include. The end result will be a complete map/zine of the city that participants can take home and share.
