On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which takes place on 8th November 2019, the Goethe-Institut will be showing films that deal with the reunification of Germany through the so-called peaceful revolution.

It starts with the documentary film “Angela Merkel – The unexpected”. No propaganda film, no heroic glorification of a politician, but good investigated journalism.

The rise of Angela Merkel to become Federal Chancellor is one of the most remarkable political carries of a woman. The insightful documentation portrays her youth in the DDR, and traces her life path from the fall of the Berlin wall to her gradual rise to become one of the Europes leading politicians in the last fourteen years. For this documentation film Merkel confronted a long interview. She reflected about the different stages of her political carrier as well as in her personal life. Additionally many of her companions and political opponents get a chance to speak.
