From the organizer:
Comprising a multimedia body of work that ranges from sketches found in the artist’s journal to oil paintings on canvas and a series of full-length 12-hour digital paintings & moving images, this collection hopes to reveal part of the intriguing and enigmatic ‘inner chaos’ of Lan Anh LE. Her own fate, personal trauma & wild subconscious currents—all those vague shadows recalled from the past will not be simply unlocked from the storage and projected; they continue to breathe and transform, layer by layer, branching out, growing ever-larger yet resisting interpretation.
Lananh Le:(1993 – 2020)
Lananh Le was a multidisciplinary, experimental artist. Revolving around oral history, mythology, collective subconscious and public cultures of memory, Lananh’s practice is a vibrant, idiosyncratic assortment of imageries brimming with imaginations of alternative realities, expressed through a range of media, from oil on canvas to digital paintings and moving images.
Lananh considered art practice a meditation process and a search for spiritual equilibrium in an unfair society, she frequently integrated themes of time and personal identity via cultural remnants. Her work explores the healing & psychological recovery aspects of art, incorporating social trauma studies, postcolonial philosophy, and cultural ritual. The self-taught artist graduated from Stanford University in 2015 and participated in various local and international exhibitions.
