Music & Dance Recital

Within the framework of the celebration of the Europe Days 2009, the Embassy of Spain is pleased to present SUITE ESPAÑOLA, combining Spanish music and dance performance by the world known pianist Rosa Torres-Pardo and the dancer and choreographer Helena Martin.

The program will include a repertoire of pieces by Spanish composers Isaac Albeniz (on the commemoration of the centenary of his death), Enrique Granados, as well as music by Latin America composers Juan Jose Ramos and Alberto Ginastera.

This performance will give the public a glimpse of the different elements and influences of Spanish music and dance, from flamenco and classical and popular dance to Latin America rhythms. The show will include projections by the Spanish artist Eduardo Arroyo of the great composer Isaac Albeniz young and adult.

ROSA TORRES-PARDO

Born in Madrid, Rosa Torres-Pardo started her musical studies at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, she continued her studies at the New York Juilliard School and with Hans Graff in Vienna. She has worked with renowned orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in the Hollywood Bowl and the Royal Philharmonic of London and she has accompanied Placido Domingo in the United States and has performed in concerts and recitals throughout Spain with the best Spanish orchestras.

HELENA MARTÍN

Helena Martin was born in Barcelona where she started her technical education in Spanish Dance and Flamenco with Mudit Grau. In 1996 she became part of the Spanish National Ballet where she interpreted roles of soloist and first ballerina until 2002, when she became the first ballerina of the “Ballet Teatro Español de Rafael Aguilar”.
