Interested in contemporary art, design and creativity?
Curious about visiting an artist’s studio to see first-hand how an artist works?
Keen to take a workshop or to be part of a creative project?
For 10 weeks starting 24 Feb 2010, right in the heart of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, you can visit an artist’s studio to see how the creative process works or to roll up your shirtsleeves and get involved! albb’s Open Studio Program will turn an existing café into a creative space where art meets the public in Ho Chi Minh City.
In Le Thanh Ton Street, on the floor above PI-CHANNEL stationery shop, seventeen different Vietnamese and overseas-based artists, designers and architects are busily involved in creative projects. Their studio is open for you to visit; it’s a relaxed environment that you can drop in to at any time to watch projects or artworks developing, sit and chat to the artists or even take part in the project in some way. Every 7 to 12 days, a new artist or team will take over the space, and with eleven independent projects happening you can always meet someone of a different age or background or who is working on a fresh project — from sewing superhero costumes or sock toys, from portrait photography or symbolic drawings to Nordic lacquer painting or object collecting! All artists speak English or have assistants to help them with Vietnamese-speakers.
albb Open Studio is open daily from 9am until 9pm. Drop by during the week or on the weekend and wander upstairs to see what’s happening in creative life in Ho Chi Minh City! Participating artists: Trần Minh Đức / Philip Faulks / 8Geese /Freek Drent / Vincent Westgeest/ Bill Nguyen /Michael Bullock / Radoslaw Stypczynski / Archie Pizzini /Simone Boon /Marsha Roddy /Susan Olij.

a little blah blah (albb) is an artists’ initiative that since 2005 has operated as a platform for contemporary art through a wide range of channels including projects, exhibitions & events, screenings, talks, a residency program, internships and an open-access archive of art books & catalogues. Our program has evolved in a pioneering spirit, in response to the gaps and needs of the Saigon art scene. Since 2008 we have re-focussed our program to presenting one major project each year, capacity building and the ongoing running of albb Reading Room.
