Documentary screening at DOCLAB
Sat 22 May, 6 pm
Screening Room, Goethe Institute
We cordially invite you to the screening of German filmmaker Werner Herzog’s 2005 documentary about the life and death of bear enthusiast Timothy Treadwell. The film consists of Treadwell’s own footage of his interactions with grizzly bears before he and his girlfriend were killed and eaten by a bear in 2003, and of interviews with people who knew or were involved with Treadwell.
Werner Herzog is a German film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and opera director. He is often associated with the German New Wave movement (also called New German Cinema). His films often feature heroes with impossible dreams, people with unique talents in obscure fields, or individuals who find themselves in conflict with nature. Herzog was granted exclusive access to over 100 hours of video shot by amateur naturalist, wildlife advocate and troubled loner Timothy Treadwell, who spent 13 summers in Alaska’s Katmai National Park, where he grew to know and love the grizzly bears that lived there.
The screening is non-profit and aims for studies and research only.
