HCMC – 26 Reasons We Still Need Superman

HCMC – 26 Reasons We Still Need Superman

Sat 22 May, 10 am – 8 pm
Galerie Quynh

This Saturday, the 22nd of May, Galerie Quynh will be hosting 26 reasons we still need Superman – a touring video art festival presenting a selection of video work from the past fifteen years. The featured artists explore aesthetic concepts, everyday narratives, and sociopolitical realities and utopias. While some artists use video to challenge our assumptions about the mimetic nature of the medium, the curatorial focus of 26 reasons why we still need Superman will be the relationship between performance and video, what reaction the works create in the audience and the subject matter as a catalyst for dialogue.

The festival will be an all-day event divided into three sessions:

10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Zhou Tao, Hu Xiangqian, Dash Snow, Roslisham Ismail (Ise), Vincent Leong, Tejal Shah, Surabhi Sharma, Jitish Kallat

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Xu Bing, Christian Jankowski, Guido van der Werve, Anton Henning, Jonathan Meese, John Bock, Mat Collishaw, Roddy Buchanan, Yang Zhengzhong, Olaf Breuning

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Angus Fairhurst, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Roman Signer, Wang Qingsong, TJ Wilcox, Ross Sinclair, John Smith, Paul McCarthy

26 Reasons why we still need Superman is curated by Tim Crowley and made possible with support from the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) in Beijing, Wolfs & Chung Design Collective, ch+art and the Hong Kong Arts Centre. Admission is free and open to the public.
