Buddha's Dream

Opening: Sat 15 Jan, 5 pm Exhibition: 15 – 20 Jan 2011 Vietnam Fine Arts Museum

A young artist who has chosen clay as his material and is producing some fascinating work. Read the artists statement in our earlier post. See below for some comments and some pictures of the works in progress.

From Brian Ring: Nguyen Tuan works with clay. It’s a rare choice for a contemporary artist, but as a student he fell in love with the material, and later with the ceramic village Phù Lãng, where these works were made. Ceramics in Việt Nam has a long and illustrious history, but few contemporary artists are working with clay in ways that go much beyond decorating and altering traditionally shaped pots. Tuan, however, is following his own vision and making his own path. He is passionate and dedicated, his work embraces life, and while his sculptures invite us to join their group and reflect on deeper values, you also feel that they may be just about to burst out laughing for the sheer joy of it! Enjoy!

  1. I am writing this comment quite spontaneously, as I really love your refreshing work, emerging from a place of such ceramic tradition. Congratulations to you and would love to know more about your work and perhaps who represents you. Sincerely – Graeme
