Pina Bausch, born Philippina Bausch in 1940 in Solingen, became world famous in the seventies with her development of dance theater. She combined dance for the first time with other genres, such as singing and acting. In her newly created art form she addressed universal themes in bizarre and ironic ways, including for example relationships between a man and woman, love, sorrow, despair and happiness. With groundbreaking pieces such as “Café Müller”, “Carnation” and “Contact Zone”, Pina Bausch became internationally famous. “Café Müller” was first performed in 1978 and focuses on her main theme: the search for love and a feeling of security.

Pina Bausch died on 30 June 2009 in Wuppertal, Germany.

Free admission.
