Exhibition Altered Cloud

Opening and artist talk: Thu 15 Mar, 8 am
Exhibition: 15 – 29 Mar 2012
Hall of Hue University of Arts

From the organizer:
The project will exhibit a sculpture block shaped as a cloud, which is transforming into a water monster (15 x 6 x 4 m) with many arms. The sculpture is made of aluminium beverage cans and will be exhibited as floating on the surface of Tinh Tam lake (literally Lake of the Serene Heart), which was one of the most beautiful landscapes of the capital city but is now seriously intruded and polluted.

Objectives of exhibition:

– Create changes in the landscape of Tinh Tam lake in a dialogue way. In the past few decades, there have been no projects or policies on amending and designing the lake for the new relationship between residential development and public landscape, but only the intrusion for little and private pragmatic benefits without cultural awareness. The appearance of the sculpture in a special location will attract public attention, create unusual feelings, and suggest ideas for broad discussions on the development of a heritage city.

– Call for the attention of the society and related institutions toward the problems of heritage intrusion and environmental pollution.

– Mobilize teachers and students of universities around Tinh Tam lake to raise the same voice to ask related departments and agencies to be more responsible for the cultural heritage complex of the Ancient Capital.

– Concretize the potential danger under the surface of Tinh Tam lake by a sculpture block.

– Stimulate visual artists to pay attention to pressing social issues. Particularly, students of University of Arts need to have concrete actions against the daily situation that is happening before their eyes.
