From Goethe Institut:
The Goethe-Institut proudly presents the video installation “Lap Loe” by Tran Luong, one of the first Vietnamese artists who experiments with installation, performance and video art, to the audience in Hanoi. Previously in February 2013, this art work was shown in the group exhibition “No Country” – Contemporary art in South and Southeast Asia – at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA.
“Lap Loe” belongs to the interactive performance series “Red Scarf/Welts” which has already been exhibited in Beijing, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Shanghai – China, Seoul – Korea, Solo – Indonesia, Hanoi, Hochiminh City – Vietnam and Singapore. This art work was inspired by the red scarfs that pupils in Vietnam as well as other countries wear over their shoulders and expresses the artist´s concern about daily life and historical matters.
Statement /Lap Loe/
The uncertain fates
The lightning before the storm
The fireflies or the wars that were seen from the long distance…
Suddenly flared up like the efforts of the ashes before going out
