Attention Filmmakers: Jakarta ARKIPEL Film Festival 2015
Open call for the 3rd ARKIPEL Jakarta Film Festival
Deadline: 8 May 2015
From the open call:
ARKIPEL is intended to be able to deliver quality documentary (not TV documentary) and achievement of experimentation in cinema to Indonesian, Southeast Asian, and International audiences. ARKIPEL always bring a critical discourse through curatorial programs, symposium, and public lecture to broaden the knowledge of the ever-changing cutting-edge cinema aesthetics.
In its third occasion, ARKIPEL will present the theme GRAND ILLUSION which departs from a film produced in 1937 by one of the world cinema masters, Jean Renoir. The idea of this film was coming from the book The Great Illusion, A Study of the Relation of Military Power to National Advantage by Norman Angell in 1910. The book was about humane criticism during World War I. Renoir and Angell’s idea was to look at how the problem of humanity in our civilization had been banished by conflict and political choices.
There are two calls:
1. Grand Illusion Open Call: international call for film entries on the theme
2. Young Asian Curators: open to Asian (citizen of and based in Asian country) film curators under 30 years – proposals for film screening on the theme.
Three young Asian curators will be selected and awarded travel and hosting in Jakarta for festival and screening of proposed work.
