apexart’s Unsolicited Exhibition Program 2017-18: Call for Applications
Deadline: 31 Oct 2016

From the open call:

The art organization apexart invites curators, artists, writers, and creative individuals, regardless of experience level or location, to submit ideas online to be presented at apexart’s New York City space as part of next season’s exhibition program.

Proposals should describe focused, idea-driven, and original group exhibitions. They cannot exceed 500 words and must be written in English. No biographical information, CVs, links, or images should be included within the application – just describe the exhibition you want to create and why. Projects are judged by the strength of their ideas and the organizer’s ability to communicate, rather than by familiar names or past accomplishments.

The organizers of the three highest-ranked proposals receive funding for the proposed exhibition as well as an honorarium, and work closely with the apexart team to turn their idea into an apexart exhibition.

Submission fee: None.

The program supports:

a/ $6,000 exhibition budget, $300 public programs budget, and $2,000 curatorial honorarium to the organizer;
b/ costs for insurance, advertising, publicity, documentation, design, printing, and mailing of the brochure, and the opening reception;
c/ exhibition logistics, including loan agreements, shipping, and installation.

apexart is a non-profit arts organization in Lower Manhattan that offers opportunities to independent curators and emerging and established artists, and challenges ideas about art, its practice, and its curation.
