Flicks Fiesta SEA 2017: Call for Entries
Deadline: 31 Mar 2017
Time of festival: 29 Apr 2017
From the open call:
Flicks Fiesta was a student-organized short film festival initiated by degree students of KDU Penang University College in 2015. It was aimed at young filmmakers to showcase their independent productions, giving them new exposures, and to experience a sense of accomplishment.
Since then, this short film festival grew from a local event to a national festival. In 2016, Flicks Fiesta received submissions from several universities, colleges, institutions all over Malaysia. In the same year, a new award — Yasmin Ahmad Award — was introduced to acknowledge young creative filmmakers with multi-cultured submissions.

Flicks Fiesta SEA 2017’s production submissions theme is “Life-Changing, Changing Lives”. We believe that no matter what one is going through in life, life is worth celebrating. With this, we encourage participants to produce and submit productions that focus on:
— life-changing messages;
— actions of people who changed the lives of others;
— celebration of the wonders of life;
— celebrating human and social values;
any other interpretation of the theme.
Exceptional submissions that raise awareness on a forgotten society group, change audience’s perception and encourage appreciation towards life will be nominated into our prestigious special award category – The Life Impact Award (in memory of the late Malaysian film director, writer and scriptwriter Yasmin Ahmad).
All nominated films will be screened during the Award Night on April 29, 2017 in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. All participants are invited to attend, and there are up to RM 15,000 (US$ 3,300) worth of prizes to be won.
