From Goethe Institut:

We kindly invite you to a two-day dance workshop with Isabelle Schad, an event within the framework of the “Europe meets Asia in Contemporary Dance Festival 2017“.

The workshop will introduce into different types of movement techniques around the energetic body, using principles of Asian practices such as Aikido, sword-fighting, acupressure (Shiatsu), breathing techniques (qigong and its relating theories); as well as other somatic practices such as Body-Mind Centering. The questions at stake are concerned with the notion of form and what ‘in-forms’ a form: We are dealing with inner-outer relationships, the relation to oneself, and the self within a group.

The workshop aims to help participants connect with their bodies in a clear and consistent way, creating unity between their body and mind, being aware of theỉr conscious self so that they will be able to fully express themselves in movement and subjectivity. This emphasis on the gateway to inner-self is key to help participants connect with their dance partner, the group, and the world.

Dancer and choreographer Isabelle Schad studied classical dance in Stuttgart and danced for many different choreographers. In 1999 she started her own projects as choreographer. Her research focuses on the body and its materiality; the relationship between bodies, representation, form and experience; practice as a learning process; community and political involvement. Her works are situated at the interface between dance, performance and the visual arts, and they tour internationally. She has co-initiated numerous projects and groups that search for connections between various fields of research and practice, whereby production methods are also questioned by participants. Schad teaches throughout the world and in various formats. She is the co-director of a project space in the Wiesenburg in Berlin.

Watch her performance in the dance piece “Der Bau”, inspired by the novel of the same name by Franz Kafka:
