About the movie:

“Woman in the Dunes” (砂の女 Suna no onna, literally “Sand woman,” also translated as “The Woman of the Dunes”) is directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara and based on a novel of the same name by Kōbō Abe. The novel was published in 1962, and the film was released in 1964.

“Woman in the Dunes” is a modern version of the myth of Sisyphus, the man condemned by the gods to spend eternity rolling a boulder to the top of a hill, only to see it roll back down.

About FILMstoryteller:

“FILM storyteller” is a screening program that concentrates on the diversity of ways of reading films from different perspectives. Through 3 activities: screening – discussion – review, like a suggestion, we use films as a material to awaken something new in participants. We encourage discovery – contribution – encounter – experience from the host/participants/filmmakers to create conversations. Each participant will be given a chance to experience and challenge themselves in various roles.

The movie is shown in Japanese with Vietnamese-English subtitles. A discussion of the film will take place at the end of the screening.
