You are invited to the play “SAIGON” by Caroline Guiela Nguyen. This is one of the flagship event in the year celebrating 45 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and France.
“SAIGON” is a polyphonic symphony, telling the story that spanned 40 years of these French and Vietnamese people whose destinies were tossed about by history. At Marie-Antoinette’s restaurant, a place that goes beyond times and borders, located both in Saigon and Paris, yesterday and today, people come to dine, drink and sing, dance, love and cry. Their names were Linh and Edouard, Hao and Mai, Cécile, Antoine… French and Vietnamese actors, and also French actors of Vietnamese origins embody 11 characters of “SAIGON”. On stage, their voices and fates intertwine with emotions happening between the two pivotal years of 1956 and 1996.

Chevalier (Knight) of Order of Arts and Letters, nominated for Molière Awards in 2015 and 2018, the young and talented French author and theater director Caroline Guiela Nguyen was born to a Vietnamese mother. To write this play, she came to Ho Chi Minh City in 2015 and 2016 as part of the Villa Saigon residency program by Institut français du Vietnam to immerse herself in the atmosphere here and to recruit four young Vietnamese comedians at the workshops organized at the theater school.
After its wild success at the 71st Avignon Festival, “SAIGON” performances are all sold-out, one after another, in renowned theaters around the world. On the occasion of the play’s world tour, Institut français du Vietnam has the pleasure to invite Caroline Guiela Nguyen and her company Les Hommes Approximatifs to perform on stage in Ho Chi Minh City for two special dates.
