From the organizer:

Time Between and Galerie Quynh are pleased to present ‘Ether: there are no birds here and i wonder about your sanity’, a performance by German artist Fritz Faust, on the rooftop of Galerie Quynh. Fritz Faust’s works are dealing with body, space and sound touching on the notions of masking, divinity, oneirology, animality and politics of the altered body. This is the artist’s second performance in Saigon after the piece ‘vocal interruption’, organized by YUME Art Project in November, 2018.

Fritz is interested in repetition and boredom and how they correlate to power structures. Looking at guards, who watch the same sections of the streets every day, he wonders about the distance between body and environment and how skin integrates into the street, that is the distance between skin and concrete somehow disappears. Combining performative images with a vocal narration drawing from mythology, observations and in particular thoughts on postcolonial representation of power, the performance will explore a larger narrative of bodies that are swallowed by their physical, social and culture circumstances.

The duration of the performance is about 1 hour. Happening independently on the rooftop of the gallery where there is a canopy, an installation in current exhibition ‘Serpents’ Tails’ by artist UuDam Tran Nguyen, the performance somehow reflects Fritz’s sense about Saigon after nearly 9 months living in the city.

The following week, Fritz will have an artist talk on performance art at Soma Art Lounge, 6B Lê Văn Miến, Thảo Điền, Dist. 2, HCMC on Friday, 24 May 2019, 6:30PM – 8:00PM.
