ABOUT THE ARTIST:
The Berlin pianist Corinna Simon received her first piano lessons at the age of five. At the age of twelve she began her piano training as a young student at the Julius Stern Institute in Berlin. She studied at the University of Arts in Berlin with Professor Ingeborg Wunder and at the Academy of Music in Munich with Professor Ludwig Hoffmann. Master classes with György Sebok, Maria Curcio, Halina Czerny-Stefánska, Karlheinz Kämmerling and Malcolm Frager completed her training.
Her engagements have taken her to many European countries, the USA, Asia and Africa. In 1984 she made her solo debut in the Berliner Philharmonie. She has made guest appearances in important music centres such as Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Stockholm, Oslo, Moscow, Singapore, Johannesburg, Washington, San Francisco, New York and at the Lucerne Festival.
Corinna Simon plays Brahms’s Rhapsody in B minor Op. 79 No.1:
Corinna Simon has worked with renowned conductors such as Jakov Kreizberg, Marc Piollet, Lior Shambadal, Christóbal Halffter, Lukas Karytinos, Walter Weller and the composer Hans Werner Henze. In recent years she has received the highest recognition from the international press for her CDs with “rarities” of piano music. These include recordings of works by Reinhold Glière, Jean Françaix and George Gershwin and her current CD “Lutosławski Complete Piano Works”. Their new CD “L’Album des Six” with piano works by French composers was released by Sony Classical in summer 2019.
In Berlin, she leads a private training class for highly gifted young people and aspiring musicians. This has resulted in many winners of international competitions and successful professional musicians. Among her best known students is the internationally renowned pianist Martin Helmchen. Corinna Simon regularly gives master classes at internationally renowned music academies.
