“The expressiveness of natural lacquer is healing my soul”, shared by a fan of the art works of contemporary lacquer artist Saeko Ando Top of Form
A revelation to artist Saeko Ando, she realized that she could use lacquer to help others feel what I feel. She’s lucky to live close to nature and to feel the energy of nature. This is why the name PORTAL was born!
A portal is an entrance, often to a building that’s grand and important, such as a cathedral or a castle. She shared, “I hope my artworks will become portals through which you – my audience – can enter the state of peace and joy that I feel when channeling the energy of Nature.”
The “PORTAL” exhibition marks the first time that such a large collection of Saeko Ando’s lacquer artworks on acrylic are displayed together. To create such extraordinary artworks with natural lacquer is extremely time-consuming. Saeko produces very few pieces each year. She has only shown small numbers of works at previous exhibitions, making this event special.
