From Goethe Institut:

From 26 March until 12 April 2014, Goethe-Institute Hanoi will host the exhibition “Get in Touch with Mathematics”. The exhibition displays an exciting selection of the most appreciated exhibits from the first interactive mathematics museum in the world, the “Mathematikum” in the German town of Giessen. Opening of the exhibition is on 26 March, 10 a.m.

The exhibition “Mathematik zum Anfassen” – “Get in touch with mathematics” aims to create a new approach towards mathematics. It depicts the supposedly most abstract of all the sciences in a manner that can be understood by the senses and makes mathematics comprehensible – for all age groups and without any preparatory training.

But what exactly is involved in this new approach? All our experiments bank on a playful approach to mathematics. They are unswervingly thought provoking and amazing: One is inspired to ask oneself “Why is this so?”, and finds the first answers for oneself and thus finds the significance of the phenomena. It involves grasping with hand, head and heart. Visitors of all ages and all educational backgrounds experiment: They solve puzzles, build bridges, break their heads while unraveling riddles, watch a sphere race, let wonderful soap bubbles come into being – and while doing so, they are always incidentally involved with mathematics.

Goethe-Institute supported by the German Federal Foreign Office is in uncharted waters with this interactive exhibition. And thus, very happy to have a renowned partner for this project: The “Mathematikum” (www.mathematikum.de) in the German town of Giessen is the first interactive mathematics museum in the world. “Get in Touch with Mathematics” displays an exciting selection of the most appreciated experiments from the museum in Giessen, where one is invited to try out and think over more than 160 exhibits. Since it was opened ten years ago, around 1.5 million visitors have come to visit.

Free Entrance.

Goethe-Institute Hanoi especially likes to invite school classes to come and visit the exhibition. Each school class will be allotted a visiting time period of 2 hours duration, and assisted by a Vietnamese speaking volunteer when doing the experiments.
Schools are kindly asked for registration.
