Music lovers in Vietnam are soon to be enthralled by a line-up of spellbinding and enchanting concerts in the European Music Festival 2016. The festival will take place from 18 November to 3 December 2016 at the Youth Theatre and Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi and the Conservatory of Music in Ho Chi Minh city.

This annual cultural event is jointly organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, the Embassies of EU Member States and the European Cultural Institutes.

Bringing together musical talents from the European Union, the European Music Festival aims at reaching a diversified audience with varied repertoires to celebrate the richness and diversity of European culture.

In this 15th edition of the festival, Vietnamese audience will once again have the opportunities to enjoy top-notch concerts by virtuoso artists from Austria, Belgium (Wallonia-Brussel), France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Sweden. With a total of sixteen concerts in both cities, the Festival invites artists and audiences of all ages to experience music in established and conventional settings, exploring the combination of classic and contemporary rhythms. The audience will be promisingly infatuated in melodious and delicate tunes of classic music, improvising and engaging jazz, unique and exciting rhythms of pop indie, captivating blues melodies and heart-throbbing rock beats with great songs and incredible voices.

This year, the renowned Hungarian violinist Katica Illényi will be on the stage with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Honna Tetsuji at the opening classical concert at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi on 18 November. On the same day, the festival is opened by Jazz Trio Angelika Niescier, Simone Zanchini & Stefano Senni from Germany and Italy at the Ho Chi Minh city Conservatory of Music. On the following concerts, audience will be immersed in a festive jazz feast presented by Duo Lylit Neuschmid (Austria), Quartet Samy Thiébault (France), Duo Barbara Wiernik & Nicola Andrioli (Belgium/ Wallonia-Brussels). José González and his band from Sweden will surprise audience with their fusion of folk, rock and blues. You will be heart-melting by the indie pop concert by Lavagance (Slovakia). The festival will be closed in Ho Chi Minh city on 1 December by a classical concert of virtuoso Polish pianist Maciej Grzybowski and in Hanoi on 3 December by driving rock beats of Grand Blanc band from France.

Admission to the concerts is free of charge. Tickets can be reserved and obtained from 15 November in both cities at the ticket distribution locations.

  1. hi, can you help me clarify. The program on Nov 29th will take place at VN NAtional Academy of Music?

    • Hi Han, only the opening night was organized the VNAM, other concerts take place at the Youth Theatre.
