From the organizers:

You are invited to a ca trù (Vietnam’s ancient chamber music) performance with the theme “Spring melody” by KIM ĐỨC CA QUÁN.

“Kim Đức is the daughter of Phó Đình Ổn – the manager of a famous group of ca trù singers in Khâm Thiên District in Hanoi at the beginning of the 20th century. She started learning how to sing at the age of 7 and began her ca trù career at 13.

As there was not a place for ca trù during wartime, Kim Đức struggled to earn her living. In 1960, she took a job at the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), becoming people’s favorite poem reciter and chèo (Vietnam’s traditional musical theater) singer. Very few people knew Kim Đức came from a family with ca trù heritage.

After her retirement in 1986, Kim Đức returned to the ca trù scene, spending much time reading and researching about the art. She turned down every offer to teach and perform in the “intensive” way because she believes learning ca trù requires a pure soul and the patience to practice. To keep the unique art alive, she only takes in a few students.” (Excerpt from this article by journalist Trương Uyên Ly)
