From the organizer:

We’re supposed to be full in Tet. Let’s get full with words/voices by joining Ajar’s poetry day with visiting poet Hoa Nguyen. There are 2 parts:

//// PART 1 (2pm – 5pm): WRITING WORKSHOP w/ HOA NGUYEN

In this three-hour workshop, we will experiment with various writing techniques that invite advanced forms of receptivity. Working, sorting and weaving through the perceptional fields that make up our palimpsest world, we will write poems as a site of simultaneous struggle and recovery. Here we will form connectivity via correspondence, utilize the symbols of dreams, call upon the power of archetypes, and more. This workshop is designed to get us writing from many departure points and provide ideas to keep writing, ones that can be used time again. It will close with a rewrite & revision component.

* Specifications for participation:

+ Writers should bring an interest in writing / poetry, a notebook, and a pen
+ Proficiency in understanding English
+ All levels of writing experience welcome

* Language: the workshop will be conducted in English (but sometimes if you need a little bit help from friends, our interpreters are always ready).

//// PART 2 (6pm – 8pm): POETRY READING

+ Part 2.1: Hoa Nguyen’s Reading and short Q&A
It’s our chance to be embraced by Hoa Nguyen’s adorable poems flowing in her own voice.

+ Part 2.2: OPEN MIC
It’s a chance to ‘rewrite’ the writing you have just done in the previous workshop with Hoa Nguyen by performing it, letting it be heard by the trees, water, wind and our skin.

If you are not able to participate in the workshop, bring your own writing and whisper it to us. You can read/perform them in your own way(s), in all languages!

5 mins time limit for each reader!

Otherwise, bring your heart and be our magical listeners.

*Donation: Free donation to get luck for your năm mới :)

*About the conductor: Born in the Mekong Delta and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Hoa Nguyen lives in Toronto where she teaches creative writing in multiple settings.
