Issues In Contemporary Photographic Practice with
Jamie Maxtone-Graham

WHAT IS IT:

This third photography workshop offered at DocLab is an intensive 10-week workshop with two 3-hour sessions per week. The workshop will explore contemporary post-war photographic theory and practice from the 1950s to the present through images, film and lecture. Students will shoot exercises weekly, present work for group critique regularly, conduct research for presentation and produce a final personal portfolio. The emphasis is on seeing, perception and the particular nature of the photographic image.

WHAT IT IS NOT:

This is NOT a technical workshop. No special equipment is required (although it is helpful to have a manually adjustable camera). No special experience is necessary. You do not even need to BE a ‘photographer’.

Open to all. However, this workshop requires time and work and I ask that if you join, you are committed to both of those. SPACE IS LIMITED. Workshop is conducted in English but Vietnamese is understood by the instructor.
