From VCCA:

Vincomn Center for Contemporary Arts (VCCA) proudly presents “Fragments”, an exhibition showcasing surreal art pieces by one of the top artists in Japan, Hikari Sawa. Through this exhibition, VCCA hopes to bring video art closer to the public.

“Fragments” – a leading video art exhibition in installation, equipment and exhibition space in Vietnam – includes 12 videos and 3 art prints carefully crafted by Hikari Sawa, building a system of an imaginary world. The work is presented in fragments – small, scattered images so that it is not easy for the audience to grasp the full story in the beginning, but they are free to contemplate, to imagine and to connect the symbols, the hidden meanings in the artworks, and see for themselves their own stories.

Hiraki Sawa (b. 1977) – an excellent representative of video art – currently based in London (UK). He has received many prestigious prizes in the international art scene. His surreal, metaphorical video artworks, a bold expression of his unique artistic style, has been drawing the attention of the art community and were exhibited in Japan, Belgium, France, Mexico, UK,… as well as participating in highly-regard art collections.

Creating video art pieces that are open, multi-layered in meaning, Hiraki Sawa ponders over time, memories, migration of humans as well as one’s own position in reality. Combining animated movements and still images, from his own life experience, Hiraki Sawa creates an art space integrating fantasy and reality. The exhibition is much of an exciting invitation, bring about a pure, original yet deep experience in contemporary arts.

Mr. Mizuki Endo, VCCA’s Art Director who serves as the exhibition’s curator, adds: “VCCA emphasizes the importance of bringing a new type of art to the audience, a very intimate manner of touching a person’s soul in this age of information. With video art, you can enjoy art in your own way.”

In the framework of the exhibition, VCCA will hold two art discussions to help the public understand more about video art as well as Hiraki Sawa’s art practice. Other events like workshop, minishow,… will also be introduce to the audience. Detailed information is updated regularly on the center’s official fan page.
