From the organizer:

World traditions. Story-telling through music. Indigenous instruments from Vietnam and abroad. This is Limited Edition Tradition, the newest event from The Hanoi Social Club – a monthly exploration of global sounds with guest musicians from Cao Bang, Pleiku, Morocco, Africa, The Middle East and more.

Each month brings a different flavour, a new eye-opening style of the communication of emotions connected to the history of people across the world. Expect to see instruments such as the guimbri, oud, ty ba, doumbrek, tam thập lục, a wide range of hand percussion and other esoterica.

In our previous session we were lucky enough to have multi-instrumentalist, Tih Ro Cham from the Jarai community in Pleiku playing the dan k’ni and the dan ting ning as our special guest collaborator. This month brings us another musical treat with Son Montaña from Viet Tri province, playing the didgeridoo. The didgeridoo is a traditional Australian instrument which produces a very deep, almost spiritual, droning wave of sounds. Made from a hollow tree and played using circular breathing techniques, this instrument is one to lose yourself in.

We will also have guest vocalist Nadine Laham from Lebanon. Nadine is influenced by the music of Rahbani’s, Fairuz and Sayed Darwish and the fusion of Arabic and Western musical modes.

And of course we have our other regular musicians from around Vietnam and the globe playing songs that come from the Gnawa culture of northern Africa.

The line-up this month is:

Amine Canamine – guimbri, vocals
Hà Đình Huy – Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, world percussion
David Payne – electric guitar
Mansour Mostafa – North African percussion
Nadine Laham – vocals
Son Montaña – didgeridoo

Sometimes hypnotic, sometimes uplifting, sometimes healing – come see Limited Edition Tradition for quality music outside your typical genres.
