From L’Espace:
You are invited to the discussion titled “What we talk about when we talk about our beloved 20s” on the occasion of launching the book “Tuoi 20 yeu dau” (Beloved 20s) by Nguyen Huy Thiep.
This is the first time “Tuoi 20 yeu dau” is published in Vietnam. The novel portrays a chapter in the life a 20-year-old young man whose father is a famous author. One day, he leaves his family and the incredible experiences start. The young men whose lives have just begun in Nguyen Huy Tuong’s works are always a symbolic image. At that age, they are full of wonders and lust, they are curious yet also most susceptible to desperation. At that age, their humanity is at its prime, that’s why they are insanely beautiful.
Joined the literature scene in 1987, Nguyen Huy Tiep caught everyone’s attention with his breakthrough short story “Tuong ve huu” (The general retires). Talking about the role of Nguyen Huy Thiep in Vietnamese literature in the 1975-1991 era, critic La Khac Hoa said: “Nguyen Minh Chau is the pioneer in renovating post-1975 Vietnamese literature with his work “Buc tranh” (The painting). Nguyen Huy Thiep is the first to set a milestone of that renovation.”
