A special event aiming to cover a varied range of noise and experimental music scene in Southeast Asia, via “Not your world Music” book talk and gig.
“Not Your World Music: Noise in South East Asia” is a book by Dimitri della Faille and Cedrik Fermont about art, politics, identity, gender and global capitalism. From academic electronic music to do-it-yourself noise in Southeast Asia. Contemporary and past noise, electroacoustic, industrial, experimental music and sound art in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar/Burma, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam. With political, historical and sociological essays, exclusive interviews with artists and organizers, as well as an extensive bibliography of popular music from Southeast Asia and a thorough discography of noise and experimental music artists.
It’s said to be “the first book aiming to chart the spread of noise music across South East Asia”. (The Wire Magazine)
A compilation, which includes exclusive tracks from artists of these different regions as a companion to the book.
This book and its companion CD have received in 2017 the highest award in digital arts, Golden Nica by Prix Ars Electronica.
This event is divided into 2 parts:
PART 1 (at 7.30 PM): “Not your world Music” Book talk
In this talk, Dimitri will present how the research was done, how the book was published, and how it was received. All the discussions from audiences involving in the book as well as the noise and experimental music scene in South East Asia are welcome.
PART 2 (21:00): Performances

About speaker Dimitri della Faille:
As an experimental under the name Szkieve, since 1997, Dimitri della Faille has given performances, workshops and master classes in over 25 countries in Asia and Latin America. He has performed in a wide variety of alternative cultural venues, art galleries and more established festivals. In 1998, he founded the independent record label, Disques Hushush, from which he has released about 25 CDs and vinyls from experimental and noise artists from Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America.
For about ten years he sat on the artistic committee of the Association pour la création et la recherche électroacoustique du Québec (Association for research and creation in electroacoustic in Québec – ACREQ).

Heritage Space is a combination of an art gallery, a library, a concert hall, co-working office, residency space, artist studios and some open-stages, which has the capacity to host art exhibitions, music events, educational programs, multi-creative forms, artist-in-residency programs and others. Run by a group of curators, artists, researchers, musicians and architects, Heritage Space’s mission is to become a HUB for individuals and groups working on multi-disciplines from both inside and outside of the country to support and develop the creative industries in Vietnam.
