From Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design:
Organised as part of Vietnam Creative & Design Festival 2024, the showcase “Re:generation” aims to awaken actions with power of regeneration through creative practices and solutions. Building on the festival’s three core focuses – community & space, culture & heritage, and environmental sustainability – the showcase delves into humanity’s complex issues, thereby reimagining the world in the face of the Anthropocene.
This showcase brings together diverse projects that each tackle aspects of regeneration. These works not only document the current crises but also propose solutions that inspire resilience and hope.
Projects like “Nature’s Rewilding Vietnam” by the WWF aim to restore natural ecosystems, reintroduce native species and protect ecological cycles, while “Reverence” transforms environmental data into reactive installation art, offering a visceral reflection on nature as both subject and canvas.
Additionally, projects like “Chớp Bóng” and “Đà Lạt – City of Arts” invite visitors to creatively explore the societal and human dimensions of regeneration. “Chớp Bóng” uses AI to bridge the past and present, revive lost histories through technology; while “Đà Lạt – City of Arts” uses mapping and sustainable tourism storytelling to preserve and celebrate the cultural essence of the city
Projects by CodeSurfing and Ném present two contrasting but equally potent approaches to regeneration: “Chiếu” (Bamboo Mat) & “Phẳng” (Polarised Film) by the Saigon-based design studio Ném upcycles materials into creative homewares to demonstrate sustainability, while CodeSurfing’s “The Vietnamese Project” celebrates the beauty of the Vietnamese language through an artistic and educational lens and renews the cultural connection to language.
The showcase “Re:generation” ultimately serves as a testament to the transformative potential of creativity. The diverse projects showcased here inspire and remind us that we can rise to the crises of our time, offering resilience, and renewed possibilities for the future.
