From Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design:

A river, a word, a waterfall, a poem. The Vietnamese language flows like a winding stream through time, through letters, across the syllables and traversing poetry. Initiated in April 2024, “The Vietnamese Project” is a collection of research on the Vietnamese language, or more precisely, on the evolution of the Vietnamese language.

As part of the Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design 2024, this talk with Lướt Code (CodeSurfing) and the three project members (Dmarc Lê, Đông-Trúc, thou) will offer the audience an in-depth and comprehensive view of the project, including:
– Initial studies: a series of 3 essays on how monosyllable makes the Vietnamese language flexible, with the use of Python to perform NLP and analyse the Vietnamese dictionary by Professor Hoàng Phê.
– “Xác âm” by Dmarc Lê: an art installation that visualised a Vietnamese poem, developed from the mono-syllable dataset but extended by using ASJP grading system and traditional metal craft.
– “Bên kia của vần” by Đông-Trúc: a research based on an online game, where 30 participants guess the meaning of a word in Mường language.
– “bắt nắng nhặt chữ” by thou: an installation/performance where the artist developedan autogenerated poetry mechanism that composes poetry by measuring sunlight intensity to select words for a poem.
