In the transitional period Doi Moi, there are more and more corners in Hanoi – the residence is made up of many small streets and winding lanes. The existence of the common areas raises many challenges and questions for the urban development of cities. From first impressions of the unique characteristics of these areas, our study was conducted to answer the question of how the Hanoians adapt to this living conditions regarding housing, infrastructure essential as electricity and water as well as special public space around their whereabouts.
