From Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam:
The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam sincerely hosts a DVD screening and lectures on “A Remembrance of the 3.11 Tohoku Earthquake” in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The 2011 Tohoku Earthquake of the Pacific coast in Japan occurred on Friday 11 March with the magnitude of 9.0. The fourth biggest earthquake in the world in 20 & 21st centuries triggered a tremendously large scale of tsunami and resulted in 15,854 deaths, 6,023 injured and 3,276 people missing (as of 2 March 2012, source: Japan National Police Agency).

Thanks to the great supports from all over the world including Vietnam, people in Tohoku are now overcoming their difficulties and making efforts toward Tohoku’s earliest recovery, the restoration is still ongoing though.

On the occasion of one year after the disastrous 3.11 Tohoku Earthquake in Japan, this program aims to provide most updated information on the current situation and recovery of the affected area, as well as lessons and issues we have learned from this experience.

At first, we will look back over the disaster through visual images on DVD with Vietnamese sub-titles. Then, Prof. Toru Takanarita of Sendai University will talk about lessons we have learned, followed by a lecture by Prof. Taro Igarashi of Tohoku University on the role and activities of architects during and post 3.11 Earthquake.

Languages: Both lectures will be delivered in Japanese with simultaneous interpretation into Vietnamese.

Free admission but pre-registration is highly recommended.
