EUROPEAN LITERATURE DAYS 11 – 12 MAY 2012 AT THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF VIETNAM NEW BOOKS FROM SEVEN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES OFFER READING PLEASURE FOR ALL AGES. Germany, UK, Wallonia-Brussels, Spain, Italy, Poland and Denmark invite you to book presentations and debates, exhibitions and games for children about reading.
After the successful start in 2011, EUNIC, the European Union of National Institutes for Culture, presents for the second time the European Literature Days in Hanoi, this year in cooperation with the National Library of Vietnam. Books from Italy, Spain, Wallonia-Brussels (Belgium), Germany, Great Britain, Denmark and Poland, which have recently been published in Vietnamese translation will be presented. Classics or contemporary novels and short stories, books for young readers, comics for all ages and even an entertaining history of philosophy – lots of discoveries await book lovers both young and old. Partner is the National Library of Vietnam, whose large entrance hall will host most of the events. The British Council invited British writer Andy Stanton, who will introduce his last book of the “Mr. Gum” series and talk with young readers. The Spanish Embassy will present an exhibition about the history of book making in Spain from the 16th century onwards.
Furthermore there will be two round-table discussions: One about writing for young readers, the second one with translators and editors about bringing foreign literature to Vietnam – interesting topics not only for experts but for all who are interested in books and how they make their way to the reader. Translated books from seven EU participants into Vietnamese will be shown by the National Library of Vietnam.
The readings and discussions, presentations and children’s programs will be supplemented by publishers’ book stalls where books can be purchased at discount prices.
