In 2013 Professor Bernd Asmus spend a total of six weeks in Vietnam, conducting workshops and seminars for students of the National Music Academy of Hanoi, which is deemed to be one of the most important talent factories in the country. The intention of Asmus’ work in Vietnam was to create a convergence of theory and practice, in order to help the students gain a wider understanding for trends in contemporary music.

On September 23rd the young musicians’ time has come: Their work, created under the German composer’s tutelage will be presented at the Goethe-Institut Hanoi. Additionally, the students will give a short introduction to their compositions.

Prof. Bernd Asmus

Bernd Asmus teaches as a professor for music theory at the Conservatory of Stuttgart. He studied guitar and musical education as well as composition and music theory. Asmus puts his main focus on chamber music, where he does not hesitate to include unusual instruments (Musical saw, thunder sheet, Biwa, …). Asmus was already awarded different composition prizes in international contests at Graz (AU) and Guéret (F). He held composition classes in Indonesia, Thailand and the Phillippines. For 7 years, Asmus accompanied the setup of a class for composition studies in Karawaci (Java, Indonesia) at the Universitas Pelita Harapan.
