From Heritage Space:

“Like dwindling echoes gathered far away
Into a deep and thronging unison
Huge as the night or as the light of day,
All scents and sounds and colors meet as one.”

Audio-Visual interaction is a treat to explore new ways of exploring the synchronicity and correspondence. It’s the way to explore possible relationships between sound and image, but most importantly, it allows for those moments when sound and image fuse and become indistinguishable. In other word, it’s the practice of experimenting different ways of seeing sound as the visual dance the music. When the sound and the visuality interpenetrate, it creates a third communicative dimension. The visuals articulate the depth of the music, and, at the same time, the music articulates the depth of the visuals. It’s just like a collage expanded around time and several spatial and medial layers, breaks free from the two-dimensionality of the surface. It’s just like melting the ice that is the song into the mist that is the image. Sonic dreams happen when this “digital harmony” happen, when the eye hears and the ear sees.

This time, three artists from different cultures however nursing the same experiences/interest in audio-visual live performance: José Venditti (Spain), The Burning Deck (India), Simon Medard (Belgium, visual artist) and Hanoi-based musicians Hương Donna, Nguyễn Thuỳ Linh (đàn bầu), Alec Schacner will lead us to the most mystical sonic dreams.

About the artists

1. JOSÉ VENDITTI (Spain)

José Venditti is a composer, sound and visual artist based in Madrid. He is interested in understanding and confronting musical social constructions. The sound struggle between what’s known and understood and the unknown and abstract, the tensions that are created in that confrontation.

He plays saxophone, and try to work with its sound from the deconstruction of classical patterns. He also work with field recordings, synthesizers, contact microphones, generative software, etc.

Jose has released 2 EP’s and a collaborative LP with his last musical project, NegrøNegrø. He performed concerts and a/v live shows in Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Ireland, England, and Spain.

The other part of his work, revolves around sound and visual investigation, experimentation and creation. Interested in contemporary sound perceptions and aesthetics, learned listening codes and patterns that persist today and the new codes still being built.

2. THE BURNING DECK (Indian)

The Burning Deck is the solo project of Bangalore based bassist

and electronic artist Sandeep Madhavan. With influences that span
everything from 70s prog-rock and jazz fusion to the Bristol sound of the
90s, while assimilating elements of hip hop, dubstep and drum n bass,
the sound is always going to be out-of-the-box.

As The Burning Deck, Sandeep has released two albums, Kalinihta
(2013) and Deluge (2014) and one electro EP (2018).

Beside performing solo, Sandeep also organizes The Burning Deck Live – an interactive and immersive experience with sessions musicians on violin, flute, saxophone, drums and vocals complemented by custom visuals and 3D mapping.

3. SIMON MEDARD: visual artist (Belgium)

Simon will be accompany Sandeep to create the visual atmosphere and rhythm for The Burning Deck’s soundscape.
